AMC Network wins ‘Mansour Spade’ drama starring Clive Owen – Deadline

Exclusive: The AMC Network has acquired rights in North America Mr. Kodal, An hour-long drama starring Clive Wayne Queen Gambit Co-producers Scott Frank and City on a hill Shorner Tom Fontana. Black Bear Television has also joined the series as a studio and will run out of money.

Film Nation Entertainment (I know this much is true) Will manage international distribution outside of North America. French production company Hout at Court TV (The Returned, The Young Pope) Will handle co-production and local production services.

Co-written by Fontana and Frank, and directed by Frank, Mr. Spade Author Dachiel Hammet’s Great Detective Sam Spade (Wayne) centers on Hammet’s 1930 classic hero Maltese Falcon. Mr. Spade Spade (Owen) was found in southern France in 1963, at the end of the Algerian war, years after the incident Maltese Falcon. Spending his golden years in the small town of Bozouls, Spade will soon see his peace shattered.

Frank Fontana and producer partner Barry Levinson will co-produce; Teddy Schwarzmann and Michael Heimler of Black Bear; Caroline Benzo, Simon Arnal and Carol Scota of Hout at Court; Clive Wayne; Carlo Martinelli; And David Halpern.

Dachiel Hammet, who oversees Sam Spade’s character, is working with the estate team.

Frank Emmy-winner Netflix Global Hit directed, wrote and executive produced Queen Gambit, For which he won an Outstanding Management Emmy and a WGA Award. Frank has twice been nominated for an Academy Award for Best Adaptive Screenplay Logan And Out of sight. Scott has been replaced by CAA.

Three-time Emmy winner Fontana has created such shows Oz For HBO, Borgia For Canal +, ZDF, ORF and Sky Italy, and Copper For BBC America, she recently served as Showtime’s showrunner City on the hill. Fontana was also nominated for an Emmy Award for her work on Barry Levinson Patterno, the magician of lies And You don’t know Jack. Fontana is repp by UTA.

Black Bear Television is also behind the Amazon adaptation of Noise Dolan’s first novel. Exciting times, Phoebe Dinever and Cooper Rifle (Tea Tea Real SmootH) to direct; Writer-director Scott Cooper’s TV debut, limited series Angels and monsters; And the upcoming adaptation of Tracy Dion’s YA Fantasy novel, LegendFelicia sets up Henderson to adapt and show-run.
