Exclusive: Gotham Group Stephen G. Bloom chose the acclaimed nonfiction book The courage of Inez Burns, To develop as a television / streaming series.
Published by Regan Arts in 2018, Audacity of Inez Burns Burns tells the story of an underground abortion provider and socialite in San Francisco in the early 20th century.
According to the description: Inez Burns was considered by desperate women to be a hero who found him – and hated by some power-hungry men who conspired to destroy him. At a time when women risked their lives with hunting practitioners hiding in the back alley, Inez and his team worked day and night at his clinic, performing thousands of safe and healthy abortions available at a time when even the richest wives, Hollywood stars and concubines were few. There were options. He eventually became the target of politicians’ wrath.
The project is timely because the U.S. Supreme Court has ruled in favor of R.V. Wade seems ready to be hurt and abortion laws are being expanded in several states.
