‘I was hoping for more’: Why? Benedict Cumberbatch Thor returned to the role in the film?
Benedict Cumberbatch recently sat down with reporters to discuss his lead role Marvel Its latest film, Doctor Strange: Into the Multiverse of Insanity. Marvel initially tried to recruit Cumberbatch for another part of the universe. In the 2013 Thor sequel The Dark World, he was cast as the first villain Malekith. And this is how Benedict behaved:
“Dr. Strange’s role came as an idea, strangely enough, another offer I didn’t meet for MCU. I dare say: ‘I’m really glad to be invited, but I’ll wait for something spicy,'” Cumberbatch said.
But even when he first played the character of Dr. Strange, he was not impressed by the possibility: “Because he’s a very old school, somewhat misogynist, very attached to the 70’s. I thought:” I’m not sure it’s a great role at MCU. I don’t understand it, ”the actor recalls.
However, when Marvel said they wanted to bring the character into the modern world with some of those old-school qualities, Benedict agreed. Everyone knows what came of it. The first installment grossed over $ 677 million worldwide and was well received by the public and critics. The film was nominated for an Oscar for Best Visual Effects. All of this allows viewers to count on equally impressive sequels.
