Dean of the USC School of Cinematic Arts Elizabeth M. The Daily, today announced that the school’s First Jobs program has cleared 1,000 marks for the number of recent graduates, helping it find a place in the given entry-level entertainment industry. (Number is currently 1,019.) Some 64 alumni have already been promoted for which they were originally recruited and / or re-employed with the same employer.
The program is the brainchild of top TV producer Aaron Kaplan, president and CEO of Capital Entertainment, a member of the USC Martial School of Business Alum and SCA Alumni Development Council, which launched it in 2017 with SCA. The initial launch was attended by SCA alumni including Kaplan Nahnachka Khan, Josh Schwartz, Tim Story and the late John Singleton.
“First Jobs is an invaluable resource for our gifted students that spans all departments and programs and provides opportunities to learn from the best and brightest in their industry,” Daly said. “I am incredibly proud of our alumni and dedicated staff who work to ensure our students are set up for success once they enter the industry.”
Over the past four years, the program has expanded to more than 700 participating companies that have access to recent SCA graduates; Affiliation with SCA is not required for participation. Candidates for the program are recent SCA graduates or undergraduate degree holders (1-5 years old) who have gone through the application process. First Jobs is supported by SCA’s Office of Industry Relations and overseen by Lisa Fox, Media Talent Development.
“I’m grateful to all of our partners who made the first job a great success,” Kaplan said. “It’s great to be looking for your first job in any business and finding over 1,000 jobs for qualified USC graduates. The 642 jobs we’ve got during Covid are something that Lisa Fox and the First Jobs Group should be incredibly proud of. “
